Research Integrity Policy

Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law is committed to promoting honesty, transparency, accountability, and responsibility throughout the research and publication process. The journal supports responsible research practices and expects authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher to uphold the highest standards of research integrity during manuscript submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication activities.

This policy is developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles of research integrity, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices, and other widely accepted standards for responsible scholarly publishing.

The journal has zero tolerance for research misconduct and is committed to identifying, investigating, and responding to all allegations of unethical research or publication practices in a fair, transparent, confidential, and evidence-based manner.

Principles of Research Integrity

The journal upholds the following principles:

Honesty in conducting, reporting, and communicating research.
Accuracy in presenting data, analyses, and research findings.
Transparency in research methods, funding, authorship, and potential conflicts of interest.
Accountability for the integrity, reliability, and reproducibility of published work.
Fairness, objectivity, and respect throughout the editorial and peer review process.
Responsible stewardship of research data and the scholarly record.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Justitia Nova are expected to:

Conduct research in accordance with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional standards.
Present research findings honestly, accurately, and without fabrication, falsification, or manipulation.
Maintain complete and reliable research records where appropriate.
Properly acknowledge the work of other researchers through accurate citation and referencing.
Disclose funding sources, conflicts of interest, ethical approvals, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), where applicable.
Cooperate fully with the Editorial Office if questions arise regarding the integrity of their research.
Promptly notify the Editorial Office if significant errors or ethical concerns are discovered after submission or publication.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

Conduct reviews objectively, fairly, and confidentially.
Evaluate manuscripts solely on their scholarly merit.
Declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment.
Report suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, research misconduct, citation manipulation, or other ethical concerns to the editor.
Respect the confidentiality of all manuscripts and supporting materials received during the peer review process.
Refrain from using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

Ensuring a fair, transparent, independent, and unbiased editorial process.
Evaluating manuscripts solely on academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
Maintaining confidentiality throughout the editorial process.
Addressing allegations of research misconduct in accordance with internationally recognized ethical standards.
Taking appropriate editorial actions whenever concerns regarding research integrity arise.
Protecting the integrity of the scholarly record before and after publication.

Research Misconduct

The journal considers the following practices to constitute research misconduct, including but not limited to:

Fabrication of research data or results.
Falsification or manipulation of research materials, methods, images, legal documents, or findings.
Plagiarism in any form, including inappropriate self-plagiarism.
Duplicate or redundant publication.
Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals.
Citation manipulation, citation stacking, or coercive citation.
Guest authorship, ghost authorship, purchased authorship, or other improper authorship practices.
Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
Peer review manipulation.
Misrepresentation of ethical approval, funding information, or author contributions.
Use of fabricated, misleading, or unverifiable references.
Deliberate misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate false, fabricated, or misleading scholarly content.
Deliberate misrepresentation of research methods, evidence, or conclusions.

Investigation Procedure

Allegations of research misconduct may be raised before publication or after publication by authors, reviewers, editors, readers, institutions, or other stakeholders.

All allegations will be handled fairly, objectively, confidentially, and without bias.

Where appropriate, the Editorial Office may:

Conduct an initial assessment of the allegation.
Obtain relevant evidence and supporting documentation.
Request clarification from the corresponding author or other authors.
Consult reviewers, Editorial Board members, or independent experts.
Contact the authors' affiliated institutions or funding organizations where appropriate.
Temporarily suspend editorial processing while an investigation is conducted.
Follow the relevant COPE Flowcharts and internationally recognized publication ethics guidance where applicable.
Reach an editorial decision based on the available evidence.

Due Process

The journal is committed to ensuring procedural fairness throughout every investigation.

Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to allegations before a final editorial decision is made. Editorial decisions will be based on objective evidence, ethical standards, and established journal policies.

Editorial Actions

Where research misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

Reject the manuscript.
Request clarification or additional documentation.
Require correction or revision of the manuscript.
Publish a Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum).
Publish an Expression of Concern.
Retract the published article.
Notify the authors' institutions, employers, funding organizations, or other relevant authorities where appropriate.
Implement any additional editorial action necessary to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Post-Publication Integrity

Research integrity responsibilities continue after publication.

Allegations received after publication will be investigated using the same standards applied during the editorial process.

Where necessary, the journal may publish:

Corrections.
Errata.
Expressions of Concern.
Retractions.
Other editorial notices required to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Confidentiality and Whistleblower Protection

The journal respects the confidentiality of individuals who report suspected research misconduct in good faith.

Information relating to investigations will be shared only with individuals directly involved in the investigation or where disclosure is required by applicable legal or ethical obligations.

The journal will make every reasonable effort to protect whistleblowers from unnecessary disclosure while ensuring a fair investigation for all parties involved.

Continuous Improvement

The Editorial Board periodically reviews and updates this policy to reflect developments in publication ethics, research integrity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and internationally recognized best practices in scholarly publishing.
