Editorial Workflow

Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law implements a transparent, efficient, and rigorous editorial workflow to ensure that all submitted manuscripts are processed fairly, objectively, and in accordance with internationally recognized standards of scholarly publishing.

Step 1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit manuscripts electronically through the journal's Online Journal System (OJS). All submissions must comply with the journal's Author Guidelines, formatting requirements, and ethical standards.

During submission, authors are required to provide:

  • Complete manuscript files.

  • Author information and affiliations.

  • ORCID iD (where available).

  • Abstract and keywords.

  • References and supporting files.

  • Statements regarding originality, conflicts of interest, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), where applicable.

Step 2. Initial Editorial Screening

The Editorial Office conducts a preliminary assessment to determine whether the submission:

  • Falls within the journal's aims and scope.

  • Complies with the Author Guidelines.

  • Meets formatting and submission requirements.

  • Passes similarity screening.

  • Demonstrates sufficient academic quality for peer review.

Manuscripts that fail to meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or declined before peer review.

Step 3. Assignment to the Handling Editor

Eligible manuscripts are assigned by the Editor-in-Chief to an appropriate Handling Editor based on the manuscript's subject area and the editor's expertise.

The Handling Editor oversees the review process while ensuring editorial independence and the absence of conflicts of interest.

Step 4. Double-Blind Peer Review

Each eligible manuscript undergoes a Double-Blind Peer Review conducted by at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript.

Neither the reviewers nor the authors know each other's identities throughout the review process.

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Originality and novelty.

  • Academic significance.

  • Methodological rigor.

  • Legal analysis and argumentation.

  • Relevance to the journal's scope.

  • Clarity of presentation.

  • Quality of references.

Step 5. Editorial Decision

After considering the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief or Handling Editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept.

  • Minor Revision.

  • Major Revision.

  • Reject.

When reviewer recommendations differ substantially, an additional reviewer may be invited or the Editorial Board may conduct an independent assessment.

Step 6. Author Revision

Authors receiving revision requests should:

  • Revise the manuscript in accordance with the reviewers' comments.

  • Prepare a detailed response to each review comment.

  • Resubmit the revised manuscript within the specified timeframe.

Revised manuscripts may undergo an additional round of peer review when necessary.

Step 7. Final Acceptance

Once the manuscript satisfies all editorial and reviewer requirements, the Editor-in-Chief issues the final acceptance decision.

Accepted manuscripts proceed to the production stage.

Step 8. Copyediting and Proofreading

The production process includes:

  • Technical editing.

  • Language editing.

  • Copyediting.

  • Reference verification.

  • Layout editing.

  • Author proofreading and final approval.

Authors are expected to review the final proofs carefully before publication.

Step 9. Publication

Accepted articles are assigned publication details, including issue information and DOI (where applicable), before being published online as part of the scheduled journal issue.

All published articles become immediately available under the journal's Open Access Policy.

Step 10. Post-Publication

Following publication, the journal continues to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record through:

  • Digital archiving and preservation.

  • Metadata maintenance.

  • Corrections, where necessary.

  • Retractions or Expressions of Concern when required.

  • Continuous indexing and dissemination.
