Publication Ethics

Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. The journal adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expects all parties involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—to uphold the highest ethical standards.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Justitia Nova are expected to:

• Submit original and unpublished work that is not under consideration by another journal.

• Ensure that all data, analyses, and findings are accurate, reliable, and honestly presented.

• Properly acknowledge the work of others through appropriate citation and referencing.

• Avoid plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, and redundant publication.

• Identify all individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions as co-authors.

• Obtain ethical approval where required for research involving human participants, personal data, or other regulated subjects.

• Disclose any financial support, funding sources, or potential conflicts of interest.

• Notify the Editorial Office promptly if a significant error is discovered after publication.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, objective, and independent editorial process. Editors shall:

• Evaluate manuscripts solely on academic merit, originality, relevance, and scholarly quality.

• Maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts.

• Ensure that editorial decisions are free from discrimination based on nationality, gender, religion, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.

• Avoid conflicts of interest in handling manuscripts.

• Take appropriate action when ethical concerns or publication misconduct are identified.

• Follow the recommendations and best practices established by COPE.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the quality of published research. Reviewers are expected to:

• Provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations.

• Maintain the confidentiality of all manuscripts under review.

• Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.

• Inform the editor of any potential conflict of interest.

• Identify relevant published work that has not been cited.

• Report suspected plagiarism, data manipulation, duplicate publication, or other ethical concerns.

Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher is committed to supporting editorial independence and maintaining ethical publishing practices by:

• Ensuring that editorial decisions remain free from commercial or institutional influence.

• Providing adequate resources to support a transparent editorial process.

• Preserving the integrity, accessibility, and long-term availability of published articles.

• Supporting the implementation of internationally recognized publication ethics.

Publication Misconduct

The journal does not tolerate any form of publication misconduct, including but not limited to:

• Plagiarism.

• Data fabrication.

• Data falsification.

• Duplicate or redundant publication.

• Simultaneous submission to multiple journals.

• Improper authorship or authorship manipulation.

• Citation manipulation.

• Peer review manipulation.

• Undisclosed conflicts of interest.

Any allegation of misconduct will be investigated fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with COPE guidelines. Appropriate editorial actions may include manuscript rejection, publication of corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, or notification of the authors' institutions where appropriate.

Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants, personal data, interviews, surveys, or other regulated subjects should comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements. Authors may be requested to provide evidence of ethical approval or informed consent when necessary.

Corrections and Retractions

When significant errors or ethical issues are identified after publication, the journal may publish:

• Corrections (Errata or Corrigenda).

• Retractions.

• Expressions of Concern.

Such actions will be taken to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the objectivity of the publication process. When a conflict of interest exists, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure an impartial editorial decision.
