Editor Responsibilities

Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law is committed to maintaining the highest standards of editorial quality, integrity, transparency, and independence. Editors play a central role in ensuring that every manuscript is evaluated fairly, objectively, and solely on the basis of its academic merit.

Editors are expected to perform their responsibilities in accordance with internationally recognized standards of scholarly publishing and the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Editorial Independence

Editors shall make editorial decisions independently and without influence from commercial, political, institutional, or personal interests.

Editorial decisions are based exclusively on:

• Academic quality.

• Originality and novelty.

• Methodological rigor.

• Legal significance.

• Relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

• Compliance with publication ethics.

Fairness and Impartiality

Editors evaluate manuscripts without discrimination based on:

• Nationality.

• Institutional affiliation.

• Gender.

• Race or ethnicity.

• Religion.

• Political views.

• Personal characteristics of the authors.

Every submission receives equal and impartial consideration.

Confidentiality

Editors must protect the confidentiality of:

• Submitted manuscripts.

• Reviewer identities.

• Author identities under the Double-Blind Peer Review system.

• Editorial correspondence.

• Unpublished research findings.

Confidential information shall not be disclosed to unauthorized persons or used for personal advantage.

Management of Peer Review

Editors are responsible for:

• Selecting qualified and independent reviewers.

• Ensuring an objective Double-Blind Peer Review process.

• Monitoring the quality and timeliness of peer review.

• Considering reviewer comments fairly.

• Making balanced editorial decisions based on all available evidence.

Where reviewer opinions differ substantially, editors may seek additional expert review.

Conflict of Interest

Editors must disclose and appropriately manage any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.

Editors shall not handle manuscripts in which they:

• Are listed as authors or co-authors.

• Have close personal or professional relationships with the authors.

• Have financial or institutional interests that may compromise impartiality.

Such manuscripts shall be assigned to another qualified editor.

Publication Ethics

Editors are responsible for promoting ethical publishing practices by:

• Addressing allegations of plagiarism and research misconduct.

• Investigating ethical concerns fairly and confidentially.

• Taking appropriate editorial actions when necessary.

• Maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

Editorial Decisions

Editors may make one of the following decisions after considering peer review reports and editorial evaluation:

• Accept.

• Minor Revision.

• Major Revision.

• Reject.

Editorial decisions should be supported by clear academic and ethical considerations.

Post-Publication Responsibilities

Editors continue to monitor published articles and, when necessary, may initiate:

• Corrections.

• Expressions of Concern.

• Retractions.

• Other editorial actions required to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Continuous Improvement

Editors are encouraged to:

• Maintain current knowledge of developments in legal scholarship.

• Promote editorial best practices.

• Participate in editorial training and professional development.

• Periodically review and improve journal policies and editorial procedures.
