Author Responsibilities
Author Responsibilities
Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law expects all authors to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical conduct, and scholarly responsibility throughout the submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication processes. Authors are fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts and are expected to comply with the journal's policies as well as internationally recognized principles of responsible scholarly publishing.
Originality and Exclusive Submission
Authors must submit original scholarly work that has not been previously published and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal, publisher, or publication venue. The submitted manuscript must represent the authors' own intellectual work, and all ideas, arguments, evidence, data, and materials derived from other sources must be appropriately acknowledged through accurate citation and referencing.
Plagiarism, duplicate publication, redundant publication, substantial text recycling, and other forms of inappropriate appropriation of scholarly work are unacceptable. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts comply with the journal's Plagiarism Policy and Research Integrity Policy before submission.
Authorship and Contribution
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, or preparation of the manuscript. All listed authors must have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission to Justitia Nova.
Authors are collectively responsible for the integrity of the work and should ensure that the contributions of all authors are appropriately represented. Individuals who have contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately rather than included as authors.
Any change to the authorship of a manuscript after submission, including the addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors, should be reported to the Editorial Office and must be supported by an appropriate justification and agreement from the affected authors.
Accuracy and Integrity of Reporting
Authors are responsible for presenting their research findings accurately, honestly, and transparently. Research methods, legal materials, empirical evidence, data, interpretations, and conclusions must be reported in a manner that accurately reflects the research undertaken.
Authors must not fabricate or falsify research findings, manipulate evidence, selectively misrepresent results, or intentionally distort legal sources, data, figures, tables, or other research materials. Conclusions should be supported by the evidence and analytical framework presented in the manuscript.
Citation and Referencing
Authors are responsible for providing accurate and complete citations for all sources that materially contribute to the manuscript. Previous scholarship, legislation, judicial decisions, legal documents, empirical evidence, and other relevant sources must be appropriately acknowledged.
Authors should verify the accuracy and completeness of bibliographic information and ensure consistency between in-text citations and the reference list. Excessive self-citation, irrelevant citation, coercive citation, citation stacking, citation cartels, and other forms of citation manipulation are prohibited.
Research Ethics and Legal Compliance
Authors must ensure that research is conducted in accordance with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional requirements. Where research involves human participants, interviews, surveys, personal data, or other activities requiring ethical oversight, authors must obtain the necessary ethical approval, permissions, and informed consent before conducting the research.
Authors are also responsible for ensuring that research materials and legal documents are obtained and used lawfully and that any necessary permissions for copyrighted or restricted materials have been secured.
Conflict of Interest
Authors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that could influence the research, its interpretation, or the publication process. Conflicts may include financial, institutional, professional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as affecting the objectivity of the research.
Where no conflict of interest exists, authors should include the following statement in the manuscript:
“The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.”
Funding and Financial Disclosure
Authors must disclose all financial support, grants, sponsorships, institutional assistance, or other forms of funding received in connection with the research. Where applicable, authors should also explain the role of the funding organization in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or decision to publish.
Where no external funding has been received, authors should provide an appropriate funding declaration in accordance with the journal's requirements.
Artificial Intelligence
Authors may use Artificial Intelligence and AI-assisted technologies in accordance with the journal's Artificial Intelligence Policy. Such technologies may assist with limited aspects of manuscript preparation, but authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, legal reasoning, interpretation, and scholarly integrity of their work.
Artificial Intelligence systems must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors are responsible for verifying AI-assisted content, references, citations, legal authorities, factual claims, and interpretations before submission. Any significant use of AI should be disclosed in accordance with the journal's AI Policy.
Cooperation During Peer Review
Authors are expected to participate responsibly and constructively throughout the peer review process. When revisions are requested, authors should carefully consider the comments of editors and reviewers and provide a clear response explaining how each substantive concern has been addressed.
Where authors disagree with a reviewer or editor, they should provide a reasoned and academically appropriate explanation. Revised manuscripts should be submitted within the timeframe specified by the Editorial Office. Authors should communicate with the Editorial Office promptly if additional time is required.
Corrections and Post-Publication Responsibilities
Authors retain responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of their work after publication. If authors discover a significant error, omission, inaccuracy, or ethical concern in a published article, they should promptly notify the Editorial Office and provide sufficient information to allow the matter to be assessed.
Authors are expected to cooperate with the Editorial Office in the publication of corrections, errata, expressions of concern, retractions, or other appropriate editorial notices when necessary to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
Compliance with Journal Policies
Submission of a manuscript constitutes confirmation that all authors have read, understood, and agreed to comply with the policies of Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law. These include the journal's policies concerning publication ethics, research integrity, plagiarism, authorship, conflicts of interest, funding disclosure, copyright and licensing, open access, peer review, Artificial Intelligence, corrections, retractions, and withdrawals.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts comply with these policies throughout the editorial and publication process.
Commitment to Responsible Scholarship
Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law encourages authors to conduct, present, and communicate legal research responsibly, ethically, transparently, and with due regard for the integrity of the scholarly record. By fulfilling these responsibilities, authors contribute not only to the quality of the journal but also to the development of trustworthy legal scholarship and the broader international academic community.
