Editorial Workflow
Editorial Workflow
Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law implements a transparent, rigorous, and structured editorial workflow designed to ensure that every submitted manuscript is evaluated fairly, objectively, and consistently. The editorial process is conducted in accordance with the journal's publication ethics, research integrity requirements, and internationally recognized standards of scholarly publishing.
Manuscript Submission
Authors submit manuscripts electronically through the journal's Online Journal System (OJS). All submissions are expected to comply with the journal's Author Guidelines, manuscript preparation requirements, and publication ethics policies.
At the time of submission, authors are required to provide complete manuscript information, including the names and affiliations of all authors, ORCID iDs where available, an abstract, keywords, references, and any supporting files required by the journal. Authors must also provide relevant declarations concerning originality, conflicts of interest, funding, ethical approval where applicable, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Initial Editorial Screening
Following submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening. The Editorial Office assesses whether the manuscript falls within the journal's aims and scope, complies with the submission and formatting requirements, and demonstrates sufficient academic quality to proceed to external peer review.
The manuscript may also undergo similarity screening and an initial assessment of publication ethics and research integrity. Manuscripts that do not satisfy the journal's minimum requirements may be returned to the authors for technical correction or declined without external peer review.
Editorial screening is an initial assessment and does not constitute external peer review or guarantee acceptance for publication.
Assignment to the Handling Editor
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned by the Editor-in-Chief to an appropriate Handling Editor according to the subject matter, methodological approach, and relevant editorial expertise.
The Handling Editor oversees the subsequent editorial process and ensures that the manuscript is handled independently and in accordance with the journal's ethical standards. Editors with an actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest with a manuscript are excluded from handling the relevant submission.
Double-Blind Peer Review
Eligible manuscripts undergo a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review process involving at least two independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.
Under the Double-Blind Peer Review system, the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts primarily on the basis of their originality, novelty, academic significance, methodological rigor, quality of legal analysis and argumentation, relevance to the journal's scope, clarity of presentation, and use of appropriate and current scholarly references.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments that assist the editors in reaching an informed editorial decision and help authors strengthen their manuscripts.
Editorial Decision
After receiving the peer review reports, the Handling Editor and/or Editor-in-Chief evaluates the reviewers' recommendations together with the manuscript and the overall editorial assessment. The possible decisions are Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.
Where reviewer recommendations differ substantially or where additional expertise is required, the Editorial Office may invite an additional independent reviewer or conduct further editorial assessment before reaching a decision.
The final decision is based on academic quality, originality, methodological soundness, legal significance, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope rather than on any commercial, institutional, or personal considerations.
Author Revision
When revisions are requested, authors are expected to address the reviewers' and editors' comments carefully and comprehensively. A revised manuscript should be accompanied by a detailed response explaining how each substantive comment has been addressed.
Authors should identify the revisions made in the manuscript where required by the Editorial Office and submit the revised version within the specified timeframe. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when the nature or extent of the revisions warrants additional peer review.
A revision request does not constitute a guarantee of acceptance.
Final Acceptance
A manuscript is formally accepted only after the Editor-in-Chief or designated Handling Editor determines that the required revisions have been satisfactorily addressed and that the manuscript meets the journal's academic, editorial, and ethical standards.
Following final acceptance, the manuscript proceeds to the production stage.
Copyediting, Typesetting, and Proofreading
Accepted manuscripts undergo a production process designed to ensure consistency, readability, and technical accuracy. This process may include language editing, copyediting, reference verification, formatting, typesetting, and final proofreading.
The corresponding author receives the final proofs for review before publication. Authors are expected to carefully verify the proofs and promptly report typographical, formatting, or factual errors. Substantial changes to the accepted manuscript are generally not permitted at the proof stage unless approved by the Editorial Office.
Publication
Following completion of the production process, the article is prepared for publication in the appropriate scheduled issue. Publication information, including volume, issue, publication date, page information where applicable, and DOI information, is assigned in accordance with the journal's publishing procedures.
All published articles are made immediately accessible under the journal's Open Access Policy, allowing readers to access the published scholarly work without subscription or access charges.
Post-Publication
The editorial responsibility of Justitia Nova continues after publication. The journal maintains the integrity and accessibility of the scholarly record through digital preservation, metadata maintenance, and ongoing dissemination of published research.
Where substantive errors or ethical concerns are subsequently identified, the journal may publish appropriate editorial notices, including corrections, Expressions of Concern, or retractions, in accordance with its Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawals Policy and Research Integrity and Misconduct Policy.
Editorial Principles
Throughout the entire editorial workflow, Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law is committed to maintaining editorial independence, fair and objective decision-making, rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review, research integrity, publication ethics, transparency, accountability, and timely editorial processing.
The journal seeks to ensure that every manuscript is evaluated according to its academic merit and scholarly contribution and that editorial decisions remain independent of commercial, institutional, political, or personal influence.
