Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Justitia Nova: Indonesian Journal of Modern Law recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies can support scholarly writing, research productivity, and language improvement. However, the journal is committed to preserving academic integrity, intellectual responsibility, transparency, and accountability in scientific publishing.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to use AI technologies responsibly and in accordance with internationally recognized publication ethics.

AI Use by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted technologies solely to support the preparation of manuscripts, provided that such use does not compromise the originality, accuracy, or integrity of the research.

Acceptable uses include:

• Improving grammar, spelling, and language clarity.

• Enhancing readability and writing style.

• Assisting with manuscript organization and formatting.

• Supporting literature searches and information management.

• Assisting coding or data processing when appropriately verified by the authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for:

• The originality of the manuscript.

• The accuracy of all facts, analyses, citations, and references.

• The interpretation of research findings.

• Compliance with publication ethics.

• All statements contained in the published article.

The use of AI does not transfer authorship or responsibility to any software or technology.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors should disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies when such tools have made a significant contribution to manuscript preparation.

The disclosure should briefly describe:

• The AI tool or software used.

• The purpose for which it was used.

• The extent of its contribution to manuscript preparation.

Routine language editing that has no substantial influence on the intellectual content generally does not require disclosure.

AI Cannot Be an Author

Artificial Intelligence systems, including generative AI tools, cannot be listed as an author or co-author because they cannot:

• Take responsibility for the integrity of the work.

• Approve the final manuscript.

• Respond to editorial or peer review comments.

• Accept legal or ethical accountability.

Only individuals who satisfy recognized authorship criteria may be listed as authors.

AI Use by Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts received for peer review.

Reviewers should not upload confidential manuscripts, figures, tables, or supplementary materials into publicly accessible AI systems or AI services that may retain, reuse, or learn from submitted content.

Any AI-assisted tools used during the review process must not compromise confidentiality or influence the reviewer's independent academic judgment.

AI Use by Editors

Editors may use AI-assisted technologies to support editorial administration, language improvement, plagiarism assessment, or workflow management.

However, editorial decisions regarding manuscript acceptance, revision, or rejection shall always be made by human editors based on academic merit, peer review reports, and editorial judgment.

AI systems shall never replace independent editorial decision-making.

Academic Integrity

The use of AI must never result in:

• Fabricated or falsified information.

• Invented references or citations.

• Manipulated research findings.

• Misrepresentation of authorship.

• Plagiarism or copyright infringement.

• Any other form of publication misconduct.

Any misuse of AI that compromises research integrity may result in editorial action, including manuscript rejection or retraction after publication.

Policy Review

As AI technologies continue to evolve, Justitia Nova will periodically review and update this policy to ensure alignment with international publication standards, research integrity principles, and best editorial practices.
