Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Al-Tijarah: Journal of Islamic Economics, Finance and Business recognizes the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies in scholarly research and academic writing. The journal supports the responsible and transparent use of AI while maintaining the principles of academic integrity, originality, and author accountability.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, ethical compliance, and scientific integrity of their submitted manuscripts, regardless of whether AI-assisted tools have been used during the research or writing process.
Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for limited purposes, including:
-
improving grammar, spelling, and language quality;
-
enhancing readability and writing style;
-
translating manuscripts;
-
organizing references or formatting text;
-
assisting with coding or data visualization, provided the outputs are carefully verified.
The use of AI must not replace the authors' intellectual contribution.
Prohibited Uses
The following uses of AI are not permitted:
-
generating fabricated or falsified research data;
-
creating fake citations or references;
-
manipulating research findings;
-
generating images, figures, or tables without proper disclosure;
-
writing an entire manuscript without substantial human authorship;
-
listing AI tools as authors or co-authors.
AI systems cannot assume responsibility for published work and therefore cannot meet the journal's authorship criteria.
Disclosure Requirement
If AI-assisted technologies have been used during manuscript preparation, authors should disclose this in the manuscript under a separate section entitled "AI Statement" or in the Acknowledgements section.
Example:
The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) solely for language editing and grammatical improvement. All scientific content, analysis, interpretation, and conclusions were independently developed and verified by the authors.
Failure to disclose significant AI use may result in editorial action.
Editorial Use of AI
Editors may use AI-assisted tools for administrative purposes, such as:
-
language assessment;
-
plagiarism screening support;
-
reviewer recommendations;
-
editorial workflow assistance.
Editors will not use AI in ways that compromise manuscript confidentiality or replace independent editorial judgment.
Reviewer Use of AI
Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to public AI systems or use AI in any manner that violates the confidentiality of the peer-review process.
If reviewers use AI-assisted tools to improve the clarity of their review reports, they remain fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and confidentiality of their evaluations.
Ethical Principles
The journal follows internationally recognized principles regarding AI-assisted scholarly publishing, emphasizing:
-
transparency;
-
