Promoting Religious Moderation for a Strong and Harmonious Society in Segarlangu Village, Central Java

Background: Segarlangu Village, located in Cipari District, Cilacap Regency, Central Java, represents Indonesia's religious diversity, including Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, and local beliefs. The village is an ideal setting for promoting religious moderation, which is essential for creating a strong and harmonious society.

Methods: This research was conducted as part of a community service program (KKN) by students of Institut Miftahul Huda Al-Azhar. The program focused on strengthening religious moderation through a series of activities such as training sessions, interviews, and religious events, involving all community members.

Results: The program successfully enhanced religious tolerance, mutual cooperation, and respect among different religious groups. Additionally, it helped strengthen the community’s social, cultural, and individual character through collaborative activities.

Discussion: The implementation of religious moderation principles was found to significantly contribute to social harmony and resilience within the community. It fostered peaceful coexistence and improved individual and collective development.

Conclusion: Religious moderation is a key factor in building a strong and harmonious society. The success of this program demonstrates the positive impact of promoting these principles in rural communities. 

Novelty: This study highlights an effective model for integrating religious moderation in rural community development programs.

Background: Community empowerment is essential for increasing public participation in addressing social issues and fulfilling life needs. It is often implemented through community service-based programs such as Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN), which encourages students to engage with and empathize with local communities. The KKN program of the Institut Miftahul Huda Al-Azhar Group 3 (2024) was conducted in Padaringan Village, Purwadadi Subdistrict, Ciamis Regency. The program utilized methods like outreach, education, and group mentoring to target various aspects of community improvement.

Methods: The KKN activities were centered around five core areas: Religious Affairs, Education, Socio-Cultural Development, Health, and Economics & Entrepreneurship. Interventions were tailored to address the village's specific needs, fostering active participation among local residents.

Results: The community's response was overwhelmingly positive, with active participation in various programs. One key event was a seminar on Fiqh for Women held at SMPN 2 Purwadadi, aimed at increasing the students’ understanding of Islamic teachings.

Discussion: The success of the program can be attributed to community involvement, which enhanced social cohesion and the overall sense of belonging. The diversity of activities ensured a holistic approach to meeting the community's needs.

Conclusion: The KKN program successfully empowered the community, driving educational, social, and economic development, and exemplified the importance of student-driven initiatives in fostering sustainable growth.

Novelty: This study highlights the significance of community empowerment programs in rural areas, showcasing their potential for long-term social impact.

Community Health Empowerment Efforts to Establish a Preparedness Village in Bantardawa, Ciamis Regency

Background: Health challenges in rural areas like Bantardawa Village, Ciamis Regency, often stem from inadequate sanitation, poor health practices, and limited access to healthcare services. To address these issues, community empowerment through health education and accessible health programs is essential. This study focuses on the health empowerment initiatives in Bantardawa, aiming to promote healthy living behaviors (PHBS), prevent stunting, encourage the use of herbal medicine (TOGA), and support routine health monitoring.

Methods: A 40-day Community Service Program (KKN) was implemented in Dusun Sukadana, Bantardawa. The program employed lectures, practical demonstrations, and community-based activities to educate and engage local residents. Activities targeted schoolchildren, pregnant women, and families, focusing on hygiene, nutrition, and sustainable health practices.

Results: The program led to an increase in PHBS awareness and improved hygiene practices among students. Stunting prevention initiatives successfully raised maternal awareness about nutrition, while TOGA training equipped families with knowledge to use local herbal remedies. Routine health programs, including screenings and medical check-ups, enhanced community access to essential health services.

Discussion: The integration of health education with practical activities successfully shifted community behavior. However, challenges like resource limitations and sustained engagement remain.

Conclusion: Community empowerment through targeted health programs effectively addresses rural health issues, with an emphasis on education, local resources, and sustainable practices.

Novelty: This study demonstrates the potential of combining traditional knowledge (TOGA) with modern health practices to improve rural healthcare outcomes.

Empowering Pasirlawang Village through a Global Community Engagement Program: A Case Study

Background: One of the essential aspects of higher education in Indonesia is the Global Community Engagement Program, which serves as a real-world application of students' academic knowledge. The program, typically implemented during undergraduate studies, is an opportunity for students to contribute to community development. The students of Institut Miftahul Huda Al-Azhar, located in Banjar City, West Java, Indonesia, conducted their program in Pasirlawang Village, Purwadadi Subdistrict, Ciamis Regency. The program was designed to address local challenges and promote advancement in key sectors such as religion, economy, social welfare, and culture.

Methods: The research methods used in this program were a combination of observation and field research. Over the course of 40 days (August 5, 2024 to September 10, 2024), students engaged with local residents to assess community needs and implemented various initiatives designed to foster development in multiple sectors.

Results: The Global Community Engagement Program successfully identified the strengths and weaknesses of Pasirlawang Village. It raised awareness in the community and introduced sustainable initiatives in religious practices, economic ventures, and social welfare. Students provided practical solutions that utilized the village's vast natural resources to stimulate growth.

Discussion: Although the village possesses significant religious and natural assets, it faces challenges in human resources. The program was able to empower the youth, provide new knowledge, and help enhance innovation in the region.

Conclusion: This initiative is an example of how global expertise can be used to empower local communities, fostering self-sufficiency and progress. It offers a valuable model for future community-based programs.

Novelty: The novelty of this program lies in its combination of academic knowledge with local community development, promoting a collaborative approach to rural empowerment.

Community Service Implementation: Religion, Economy, Social, and Environmental Aspects in Puloerang

Background: Community Service is part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, specifically focusing on the implementation of community engagement. This activity provides students with opportunities to learn directly by interacting and actively contributing to community dynamics.

Methods: This study was conducted in Puloerang Village, Lakbok Subdistrict, using a training approach in several fields, including education, religion, socio-culture, economy and entrepreneurship, health and environment, as well as infrastructure. The methods involved field observations and active participation in community service programs.

Results: The results showed a positive response from the village government and high community participation in the programs. However, challenges were identified such as low active participation from some residents and limited resources affecting program effectiveness.

Discussion: The findings highlight the importance of strengthening communication and collaboration between students and the community to overcome existing obstacles. Adjusting programs according to the specific needs of the village is also crucial to improve the success of the community service activities.

Conclusion: The implementation of community service in Puloerang Village has yielded significant positive impacts, but strategic improvements are needed to address challenges related to participation and resources. Thus, community service programs can be more effective in supporting sustainable village development.

 Novelty: This study contributes new insights into developing community service strategies based on adaptive and responsive collaboration tailored to local village needs, enhancing the sustainability of community engagement programs.
