Journal History

Munakahat: Journal of Islamic Family Law was established as an academic journal dedicated to the study and development of Islamic family law, particularly in response to contemporary legal, social, technological, and institutional developments affecting Muslim families.

The journal published its first issue, Volume 1 Number 1, in December 2024. The inaugural issue established the journal's scholarly identity by presenting research on contemporary issues in Islamic family law, including Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, family protection, digital transformation, family governance, comparative Islamic family law, family resilience, and related socio-legal developments.

Following its establishment, the journal continued its publication on a biannual basis, in June and December, while gradually strengthening its international and comparative orientation and expanding scholarly engagement with contemporary developments in Islamic family law.

The journal subsequently obtained its online ISSN 3090-9317, issued by the Indonesian National ISSN Centre under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), effective from Volume 1 Number 2, June 2025. In accordance with the ISSN regulations, this ISSN applies from the designated issue onward and does not apply retrospectively to Volume 1 Number 1.

Since its establishment, Munakahat has remained committed to developing a consistent scholarly platform for research in contemporary, comparative, and interdisciplinary Islamic family law. The journal continues to publish new issues regularly and welcomes scholarly contributions addressing emerging challenges and developments in Muslim family law.
